Sometimes before a real estate closing the seller of the property will remove their personal effects, turn off the gas and electricity and leave the house for you. Here's a better way. Speak with the utility companies and arrange for continuation of service rather than disconnecting it. One of the things you will want to do before the closing is to make sure the appliances are still in good working order. That's hard to do if the electricity is turned off. By the time service is reconnected you may find an appliance has become inoperative. You'll need to get the seller to cooperate by speaking with the utility companies but its well worth the time.
